Seiken Densetsu Complete Limited Edition

Seiken Densetsu series fans and collector’s have a new reason to rejoice, with the SNES Secret of Mana Cartridgeannouncement of the Seiken Densetsu Music Complete Works Limited Edition set (depending on translation also know as the Seiken Densetsu Music Complete Works Book). This impressive collection of soundtracks and music from the Secret of Mana series and it’s offshoots boasts 19 CDs and 1 DVD. Some of this is music is from games that never saw an official release in the states.

Secret of Mana – Seiken Densetsu

Most U.S. RPG players were first introduced to the series on the the Super Nintendo, when Seiken Densetsu 2 (literal translation Holy Sword Legend) came to the States as The Secret of Mana. The Secret of Mana was different than the traditional-style Final Fantasy RPG approach in that battles were real-time, much as they were in the “Tales of” series of games. The Secret of Mana Original soundtrack was released in both the Japanese and U.S. market based on the heavy success of the game. The soundtrack was also quite successful, earning a number of re-releases. A little bit more about that first soundtrack from Wikipedia:

The game’s soundtrack was composed by Hiroki Kikuta. It is known for its variety of tunes which tend to focus on the use of percussion and woodwind instruments, ranging from a lighthearted dwarves’ polka to a somber, wistful snow melody to a tribal-like dance. Kikuta states that he had a particularly difficult time composing the score, which required him to combine his own style of popular music with the “game music” that is accompanied by the hardware and software limitation of the Super Famicom.

The Seiken Densestsu Complete Music Collection features the following soundtracks: Final Fantasy Adventure GB (Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden), The Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2), Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend of Mana, Sword of Mana (Shin’yaku Seiken Densetsu), Children of Mana, Dawn of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 4) and Heroes of Mana. Additional discs are for a collection of Final Fantasy Advenure, Seiken Densetsu and Sword of Mana music (known as Seiken Densetsu Final Fantasy Gaiden Omoi wa Shirabe ni Nosete) and a Secret of Mana arranged CD. Seiken Densetsu Complete Works Limited Edition CollectionSeiken Densetsu Limited Edition Pre-orders

From what I’m reading, this is an actual “limited edition” not one where you put limited in the title but ship millions and millions of them.  So pre-ordering is essential.  Of course the catch here is that this Japan exclusive at this time and for the foreseeable future.  These mega collections from Japan very rarely if ever make it to other countries.  It’s possible the collection will show up on various import sites in the future, but the limited edition tag suggests that if it does the price will be astronomical.  As it stands now, you can order through Square Enix Jp or Amazon Jp (Link below).  MSRP is ¥21,000, but Amazon.jp’s current list price is ¥17,220 or roughly $214 U.S. dollars. That’s only about $10 per disc plus a DVD.  The real issue for importers will be shipping.  Amazon and Squeeenix (say that out loud) don’t ship to the U.S. or foreign countries.  Read this article on Shipping from amazon.jp to the U.S. or other destinations.
