Unity being able to be compiled on for usage on the Wii U opens up the system to a lot of new possibilities as the major majority of smaller and indpendent gaming development studios are increasingly turning to Unity to make their games. Unity offers a robust development environment with its feature-set increasing with every iteration. Supporting HD graphics and in-depth scripting, system and editor it can support the development of a wide variety of games from top-down casual, to FMV (The recently successful Tex Murphy Kickstarer) to full-on FPS shooters. This is a smart move for Nintendo in my opinion.
