Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has to be better than Cartel James Schumacher, September 6, 2012September 6, 2012 Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has to be better than Cartel Of course, that’s not saying much as Cartel was a disaster in many ways and way under-delivered on a promise to take the modern-day issue with the Mexican drug cartels into a game. It could be forgiven for not meeting that admittedly lofty goal if it hadn’t been paired with some poor design across the board. I am lukewarm on Westerns as a film genre, though I count Tombstone as one of my favorite films of all time. In the gaming world however, Westerns have been consistently some of my favorite games dating back to things like the arcade classic Sunset Riders. 2005 saw the release of GUN (Still waiting for a sequel) and excellent western game. 2006 followed with the release of Call of Juarez. I don’t remember the game receiving much hype, but I do remember thoroughly enjoying it and being very impressed with the game graphically; one of the first DX10 games. A sequel came out in 2009, not as good as the original in my opinion, but a good game nonetheless. Following up on the formula of the original. The 3rd game sought to bring the series into more modern times with the summer 2011 release Call of Juarez the Cartel. Game received mostly negative reviews, and having played through the game myself I can see why. This latest announcement through the link below, takes the series back into the old west and will be a downloadable title for consoles and for PC.
