Playstation Store Welcome Back Gifts are Live

James Schumacher, June 3, 2011June 3, 2011

Update – Playstation Store Welcome Back is Overwhelmed

Just like when the Network went up, and the store first came back, it’s overwhelmed. You’ll be seeing a lot of time-out errors and slow downloads.  I suggest waiting to redeem your freebies for a day or two, or at least later at night. If your selected free games errors out or times out and you can’t select it anymore, head to Account Management, Transaction Management, Services List, SCEA Promotions and your game selection should be there, where you can select and grab them.

Playstation Store Welcome Back Gifts

If you were paying attention on Wednesday night, or if you have no doubt heard the the news since then, the Playstation Store is Online. Sony stated that the free welcome back gifts that were announced would be available in the next several days and now they have fulfilled that promise with as many as 4 free game downloads if you own both a PS3 and PSP.  Here’s the Playstation Store Welcome Back list straight from Sony:

For PS3 owners, go to the ‘Welcome Back’ section in the PlayStation Store, and select 2 titles from the following list:

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, go to the ‘Welcome Back’ section of PlayStation Store on your PSP system and select 2 titles from the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

Unlike standard Plus games, these will be permanent downloads, freely available forever.  All PSN users get 30 days of Plus for free and Plus subscribers get a 60-day extension to their contract.  There are 100 free times available in Playstation Home for those that use the services, and some perks for Qriocity music users as well.  The Video section of the has some Playstation Store Welcome Back gifts in the form of “On-Us” free rentals.  This part of the deal doesn’t seem all that great as the videos are only available this weekend.

What Playstation Store Welcome Back Gifts are you getting?

I’m grabbing Dead Nation for co-op purposes and probably Super Stardust HD? If I had a PSP I would go with Killzone Liberation and ModNation Racers.  What is everyone else going to pick?

I tried to get my free games for my psp. However it doesn’t work. When I follow your advice; Account Management, Transaction Management, Services List, SCEA Promotions it stops by SCEA Promotions. There is nothing in my Services list.
    Can you please help me?
    With regards.

Okay, the full process should be this. Click on the welcome back tab, first one top left Playstation Store. Select Welcome Back: Free PSP Game 1. Then Select the top item again (free PSP Game 1). The little icon that shows you have selected this before should show up over it. Then select a game like Killzone and it should let you download.
Alternatively Select your free game download first, go through the options, and then do the method I posted earlier. Hope this helps. Should be easier to do now that the store isn’t overwhelmed.

When you hit the welcome back tab there should be Welcome back game #1 and Welcome Back game #2, you would then select one of those and then select a game under those. If you have previously selected a game and it didn’t work/download for whatever reason, hen you would used the Account Management—-> Transaction Management method from XMB discussed in the first paragraph here.

If it no longer says game #1 or #2, and you can no longer select a game from the Welcome Back list. The next step is to go through account management and the scea promotions for games you have attempted to download. If there is still nothing listed there I’ve never seen this issue before. At that point you will need to contact Sony. Sorry if I couldn’t help.

Suggest going to http://us.playstation.com/support/ using their support search, and then trying contact support on the right sidebar.
